Starting a Blog

We would have to say the idea of blogging came to us in a very sudden way. We realized that we sometimes don't express what is going on in our lives very well to our family and friends. So, we thought a blog would be a great idea. Now, let's begin.....

Photos Of Our little Oreo

Once again we were very blessed to have the Brownie's aunt do newborn pictures for our little Oreo. Newborn photos were really fun. There is not much that we had to do to get ready for them. The only thing that we needed to do was to keep the little guy up for about 1-1.5 hrs before the photo shoot. This ended up being a little more difficult then expected. It's not easy keeping a newborn up when they want to sleep. When we got to the photo shoot we fed the Oreo and then he was out for the count and was really good for the entire shoot. Here are some of our favorite pictures.

Our Birth Story

Its surprising how fast nine months goes by. One minute your telling your family and friends that your expecting and the next minute you are telling them that you are on the way to the birth center! It was magical experience. Contractions started at 2:00 am on Sunday, April 1st. It took awhile for us to realize what was really going on. Contractions were mostly manageable for most of the day. We labored at home as long as we could but then we left for the birth center and arrived at 9:00 pm. When we got there, the Midwives checked the Muffin to see how far along she was. We were super surprised to find out the Muffin was fully dilated when we had arrived. 5-10 minutes after arriving, the Muffin’s water broke and we knew we weren’t far from having a baby. Contractions were so intense that the Muffin wanted to get into the tub and which was very relaxing. After getting in, she didn’t want to get out! We ended up having a water baby at 9:47pm. The Brownie checked to see if it was a boy or a girl and it was a BOY!! Even though we both wanted a girl, we weren’t disappointed upon having a boy. The whole experience was amazing and spiritual and we would do it again!! Our little Oreo was very alert right after delivery. The Brownie got to spend 40 minutes with the handsome Oreo. The Brownie enjoyed bonding with the Oreo and it was an amazing feeling to be a new dad! The Oreo was 7 pounds 5 ounces at birth and was 20 1/2 inches long. The Oreo had a full head of dark hair. We love our little Oreo and are so blessed to have him in our home. The pictures below are from the first week.

It came in a GIGANTIC box and was left at our doorstep. We were super excited about getting this car seat and installing it.

The Crib

So we made our big announcement... mentioned a few things about how the pregnancy is going... and now its time to start getting ready. Getting ready for the day we bring our little one home has been a lot of fun and a little stressful at times. There are so many things that people think that you should get. We have had to narrow down what we think are the essentials. Out of the thousands of things that we could have started with, the first major purchase we made for our little Oreo was the crib. This little adventure started online and ended in Logan. In Logan there is a place called Stork Landing who specializes in baby items. We spent more time in this store then probably any other store we have ever been in together. It took us over two hours (exceeding closing time) to choose this crib. Let’s just say we were pretty pleased with our purchase by the time we left.
                      Crib 1
This is what we started with. This crib did not come in a box because we took the floor model and so they wrapped it up in cardboard with bubble wrap and some other material. The crib came in about six different pieces.

Crib 3     Crib 4
Putting the crib together turned out to be a pretty simple process. Nothing like you would imagine from all the funny jokes you hear about the dad trying to put all the baby stuff together. Before you start to think that the Brownie did all the work think again….. The Muffin did help where she could.
                                   Crib 2
And now for the finished product……
                          Crib 5
We decided to decorate the crib with a few accessories that we got. The white blanked was made by one of the grandparents (its super soft), the sheep in the corner actually folds out as a blanket and that was found by the Brownie’s dad, and the little shirt was our first baby clothes purchase. The Muffin could not resist that it said, “I Love Daddy” on the front.
                                                    Crib 7
After all that work, we decided that our little baby corner still needed a little more decorating. We found these super cute wall stickers at the store and decided that they would be perfect for the crib corner.
                                                   Wall 2
So our wall went from this…….
Wall 1 To this….    Wall 6

Its not much but we like it and now it feels a little more suitable for our little Oreo!

The Pregnancy Itself

We have been very lucky during this pregnancy. The Muffin has had very little morning sickness and for the most part has been able to go about doing her normal activities. There has been a few things that have been going on that have been a little unpleasant and straight up embarrassing but we won't get into that. The best part for us so far has been feeling our little Oreo move. This little Oreo is a mover and even the Brownie has felt the baby move on a very regular basis. We thought it would be fun to share a few ultrasound images with you. We know that they can be hard to see but we thought what the heck.

They seem to be the same picture but in the second one the Oreo is actually sucking it’s thumb, so cute!!!!

During this pregnancy we have been asked a few standard questions 1. How have you been feeling? 2. How far along are you, when is your due date? 3. What are you having? 4. Where are you having your baby? 5. Are you ready for when the baby comes?  We will take a moment to answer these questions.

1.For the most part we have already answered question one so we won’t go into any more details.

2. Time has really gone by fast for us we are now 34 weeks(7&1/2 months) and only 6 weeks left to go to our expected due date. Our expected due date is April 5th. And as most of us know this can be very unpredictable once we hit 36 weeks we are considered safe to deliver. They will let us go to about 42 weeks without being stressed for the safety of the Oreo and the Muffin.

3. This has been a big question for us. We decided very early in this pregnancy that we were not going to find out the gender of our child. For the most part we have been supported in this decision and more often then not people have been excited for us that we have decided to wait. Has it been hard not to know? In some ways yes and in others no.

4. Most people are surprised that we are not going to the hospital to have are child however, we are not having a home birth either. We were looking for something in between the two options. Lucky for us we found one such place. Its called the Utah Birth Center.

Some of the reasons that we decided to choose a birth center are: limited medical intervention (unless absolutely necessary), more control of labor and delivery process, ability to eat and drink, access to many other options during delivery such as tub, shower, birth stool, etc. Yes, this means no epidural but we feel this is best for us. Feel free to check out the website below the picture.
5. We continue to prepare for the Oreo and we appreciate the many baby items we have received from family thus far. Look forward to future posts showing our preparations for the Oreo :)

The Big Revealing

We found out that we were pregnant at the end of July. We were very excited when we found out. We also had a lot of thoughts about how much our lives would change. We did not wait long to tell our immediate families because it was too exciting to wait. We thought long and hard about how we would tell them and finally came up with a little fun way to share our news. We found a small puzzle and wrote a message on the back, we then put the puzzle pieces in a sandwich bag and taped it on the outside of the puzzle box.

When the family was done putting the puzzle together they found this message written on the back.

As you can tell we didn't give away our little secret right away. Inside the wrapped puzzle box was two little bibs that said " Grandma Loves Me" and "Grandpa's Sidekick".

I think that surprise is the best way to describe our families reaction to our news. We kind of hit them with that one out of the blue. We also made them promise that they would not say anything to anybody else until we were ready to share our news with other family members and friends. We were very impressed when everyone held true to their promise. We waited another 15 weeks to tell our extended family and friends. Everybody was extremely happy for us!
